My Meditation Practice
by Bryan Bertsch
I was in a job interview the other day and my meditation practice was discussed.
The interviewer asked me why I meditate. This is not the first time IÕve been asked
this question by a casual observer, and each time I donÕt feel IÕve given a proper
answer. Of course, the ÒrightÓ answer can go on indefinitely, probably much longer
than the curious person intended. But this last incident gave me reason to re-explore
why I indeed choose to meditate.
In one sentence, I meditate to realize my full potential on Earth. That is a pretty
expansive answer. One of the keys to my meditation is learning how to weave expansive
ideas and dreams with somewhat mundane, everyday actions and create the life I desire!
To that end, meditation brings me clarity, focus and intent so that I can live my
life to its fullest.
Clarity
My meditation practice brings clarity to every aspect of my life. I am able to tune
into my life purpose and I learn how my relationships, career and hobbies support
this purpose. I do this by reaching my consciousness on a cellular level by spiraling,
internal energies. I connect to my major organs and glands, my spine and bones and
receive information from these sources. I connect to my sixth sense or intuition
through the wonder of my body! This opens the door for a dialogue between my emotional,
mental and spiritual bodies through my physical body. I am then able to observe myself
from a higher perspective and see how my choices have led me to a certain point.
I connect to my higher self, which is not limited to the physical realm and through
a dialogue check in and notice what my desires are. Once I know my desire, I can
work with my internal energies and my higher guidance to come up with a plan to bring
this into physical reality. Sometimes the directions are clear. Other times I trust
that I will get the information when I need it. The clarity begins by focusing within
and rises when I combine it with the unlimited energies of the Universe. I connect
my powerful emotions and feelings with my desires and direct this energy into my
physical body. I become an energized magnet and I use that power to bring clarity
into my everyday life.
Focus
Through practice, the meditation teaches me to focus my mind on what I desire. The
desire starts expansively: I intend to realize my full potential on Earth. I then
build from that until I reach more mundane actions that I do throughout the day.
Before I began meditating, my mind was very scattered and wandered aimlessly. I had
this awesome tool but there was no leadership, no direction. Meditation has taught
me to utilize the potential of my mind. Again, it begins by directing energy internally
ø observing, revitalizing and harmonizing my energy. I can travel outside my body
and connect to higher guides that further connect me with my desires. I then choose
actions to bring these desires into my reality. Sometimes these actions are very
specific (go seek a job interview) and sometimes they are general (remain positive
and open). Neither the general nor specific exercises are always simple. But doing
them aligns me with my highest potential and keeps me focused. Staying on my path
can be uncomfortable at times, but I have already learned it is more difficult straying
away.
What begins as a meditation exercise soon expands into my everyday interactions and
I am able to bring this observation and focus into a higher percentage of decisions
that I make. Eventually I intend to make all decisions with this clarity and focus
in mind. This is an exercise that could take a lifetime!
Intent
Now that I have clarity and focus I can live my life with intention. I understand
that every decision that I make layers into my overall focus and this creates my
life! This is a major realization ø one that brings empowerment. There is great power
in understanding that I have complete control over who I am.
Living my life with intention begins in my meditation space. I have created a safe,
sacred place for me to go and wish and dream and be whomever I want. I can then take
with me what I desire and use that to create my life. In everyday life it is not
always easy to be in that expansive place. People may laugh at you, limit you or
tell you that your dream is impossible. But you can choose to listen to your higher
voices, your higher knowing and that is what meditation brings to me.
There is plenty of help all around. Having a regular practice allows me to connect
with this support more frequently. As I am shifting my energy, I am able to tune
into these Òenergy helpersÓ because I am resonating at their frequency. This opportunity
gives me new perspectives and allows me to shift whole belief systems. I can also
let go of stuck or stagnant energy that no longer serves me.
In addition, as my energy shifts I connect with new, wonderful people here that promote
my purpose. I get introduced to a new friend, I bump into the right stranger, or
more frequently, I connect more deeply with someone who I have already known. Instead
of talking sports with my brother, we may talk about family and health or personal
struggles. We connect on a higher plane. Then we can wrap up with our banter about
last weekÕs football game.
It is pretty amazing looking at all the benefits that meditation offers me. These
are often overlooked on those days that I drag my feet into my meditation space.
But as its become an everyday ritual, it gets easier and easier to do. Each individual
sitting may not solve my lifeÕs struggles but as they are layered they provide for
me a parallel reality that I can use to navigate my way to success and greatness.
And with that is finding my clarity, focus and intentÉeach and every day!
